McGuireWoods Consulting’s in-house advocacy and mobilization team, MWCAdvocacy, continues to grow, strategically expanding its depth of experience. This summer, three new hires were made to address specific client needs.
During the short session, the legislature passed six proposed constitutional amendments. The constitutional amendments will be placed on the ballot this November for the voters to decide. The amendments have been heavily debated by legislators, media, and former Governors. Governor Roy Cooper (D) has long opposed the Republican proposed amendments and has challenged them in court. The courts will now decide if the proposed amendments would shift power from the executive office to the legislature.

The General Assembly returned to Raleigh on Saturday, August 4, 2018 to consider veto overrides of House Bill 3 and Senate Bill 3. The House voted in favor 70-39 to override the bills. Both the House and the Senate adjourned the extra session sine die. Legislators are not expected to re-convene until November 27, 2018.

This month, President Trump announced his plan to lower drug prices. The plan does not call for a major overhaul of drug companies’ pricing practices, but does include some proposals that they oppose. Much of Trump’s plan is in the form of suggested actions, and it will take time for actual detailed proposals to be put forward.
