Bucharest Office Supports Development of Civil Society in Romania

Robert joined philanthropist and RomaniaOne Founder Don Lothrop, as well as former U.S. Ambassador Mark Gitenstein in emphasizing the need to engage Romania’s civil society in democratic leadership, a principle actively supported by the United States. McGuireWoods Romania believes it is essential to have a strong civil society in order to consolidate Romania’s democratic development, public institutions economic growth and prosperity. Our Bucharest office is actively engaged in promoting democratic values, encouraging leadership principles among youth and openly discussing issues of governmental transparency. Since the opening of the Bucharest office, McGuireWoods has also reinforced sustainable policy recommendations as part of key business associations promoting transparency, civil society engagement and participatory democracy.
The event was also an opportunity to launch a mobile application developed by the RomaniaOne team, aimed at mobilizing citizens through technology and social innovation.
In addition to his recent involvement with RomaniaOne, Robert is also part of the 17 young Romanian business and civil society leaders selected by the White House to meet U.S. Vice President Joe Biden during his official visit to Romania in May 2014. Vice President Biden's public address in Bucharest reinforced the US commitment to Romania and the decisive need for a democracy to progress as a result of its citizens' active contribution.
