Raleigh Office Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

RALEIGH – McGuireWoods Consulting’s Raleigh office celebrated its 10 th anniversary last night with a reception at its offices that was attended by clients, legislators, and state and local officials. Originally started by Senior Advisor Harry Kaplan and Senior Vice President Johnny Tillett, the Raleigh office opened its doors in 2007 and has steadily grown to become one of the largest government affairs practices in the state.

Now led by D. Bowen “Bo” Heath, the firm has added multiple service lines and consultants to the office to provide a wider range of services for clients. In addition to providing clients with traditional government affairs services, the Raleigh office has expanded to add a thriving strategic communications and grassroots practice.

“We have a broad client base that includes companies and trade groups providing healthcare, educational, and environmental services and products; and we provide a full range of public affairs services that include lobbying, strategic communications and economic development,” said Heath, a senior vice president and director of North Carolina Government Relations.

Kaplan and Tillett are still active in the government relations practice and proud of the foundation they helped build.

“I still come to work excited every day to be a part of this highly talented, diverse and experienced team that we have assembled in North Carolina,” said Kaplan.

Other members of the team include Senior Vice President Jeff Barnhart, Senior Vice President Kerri Burke, Senior Vice President Franklin Freeman, Senior Vice President Tommy Sevier, Vice President Andy Lancaster, Assistant Vice President Laura Puryear, Assistant Vice President Jillian Totman, Assistance Vice President Sarah Wolfe, and Research Assistant Phoebe Landon.

“We’ve added many talented new members to our team over the past decade who strengthen and enhance our tight-knit, client-focused environment,” says Tillett. “We’ve just kept getting better over time.”

Wholly owned by the McGuireWoods LLP law firm, McGuireWoods Consulting first opened its doors in Richmond on January 12, 1998, with a team of four full-time employees. Today, the group has 118 professionals, with offices in seven state capitals, Washington, D.C., and Europe. Over the two decades, the bipartisan firm has served more than 2,000 clients on matters ranging from federal and state government relations to grassroots advocacy and economic development. The National Law Journal’s most recent ranking of more than 1,500 federal government relations firms placed McGuireWoods Consulting in the top 20 for the fifth year in a row.
