MCGUIREWOODS CONSULTING TO OPEN
BUCHAREST OFFICE
Former First Secretary of Romanian
Embassy to Lead New Office
McGuireWoods Consulting announced
today the opening of its new
office
in Bucharest, Romania on March 1,
2007. The Bucharest office will provide
many of the same services offered
domestically, including government
relations, community relations, public
affairs and strategic communications.
“We have a large number of clients with
operations or interests in Romania and
Eastern Europe and the establishment of
our Bucharest office will allow us to
offer a higher level of services in that
region,” said Richard Cullen, Chairman
of McGuireWoods LLP. “Client relations
are an important aspect of any
professional services business and our
clients’ needs extend well beyond
standard legal services. Our Consulting
group can provide our clients with a
value-added component that many of our
competitors are either unable or
unwilling to match.”
The managing director of the Bucharest
office will be
Nadia Crisan, a native Romanian and
departing First Secretary of the
Romanian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Ms.
Crisan brings a unique combination of
skills in diplomacy, international and
media relations, and a deep commitment
to serving clients. As First Secretary
at the Embassy of Romania, she was
responsible for promoting Romania’s
policies and interests before the United
States Senate; strengthening relations
with American investors in Romania; and
articulating the Romanian perspective on
international security to various
Washington think tanks. Ms. Crisan
earned her bachelor’s degree at Illinois
State University and a master’s in
International Law and Diplomacy from the
prestigious Fletcher School at Tufts
University in Medford, Massachusetts.
“We are very excited to be able to offer
our services to an expanding client base
in Romania,” said L.F. Payne, President
of McGuireWoods Consulting and former
member of the U.S. Congress. “Romania is
a strategic partner of the Unites States
and is a land of tremendous promise. We
are honored to be a part of Romania’s
economic development efforts and
integration into the United States and
European markets.”
While this marks MWC’s first foray into
the international marketplace, MWC has a
history in Romania. The firm first
represented Romania in its successful
bid to join the NATO alliance in 2004,
which eventually paved the way for its
membership into the
European Union (EU). In 2005, Smithfield
Foods, an MWC client, acquired the
world’s largest pork production facility
at Timisoara, Romania.
“Smithfield is pleased to have
McGuireWoods Consulting and Nadia Crisan
in Romania to provide the kind of
sophisticated support and insight that
we rely on in the United States,” said
Dick Poulson, Executive Vice President
of Smithfield Foods. “We congratulate
them on this new enterprise.”
