Betsy Beamer

Director of Planning and Organization

Betsy is the director of planning and organization at McGuireWoods Consulting where she has worked since the firm’s founding in 1998. In addition to assisting MWC clients on a variety of public affairs initiatives, Betsy has been extremely active in a number of civic and political endeavors. She recently served a four-year term on the Virginia Board of Education from 2010-2014 and served as the vice president during the last two years of her term. In addition, she has served on the boards of the Virginia Access Project, and the Board of Visitors of Radford University.

Prior to joining MWC, Betsy served as Virginia’s Secretary of the Commonwealth under Governor George Allen from 1994-1998. Prior to her appointment, she spent several years in Republican fundraising. She headed up the finance section of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Campaign Academy as well as served as finance director at the Republican Party of Virginia in 1990. She also has served as finance director and consultant for several local, state and national campaigns.

In addition to her other civic activities, Betsy is past chair and member of the Salvation Army of Metro Richmond., Project Exile – Safe Neighborhoods, Prevent Blindness Virginia and the Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital Foundation. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Crossover Ministries and serves on the boards of the Byrd Middle School and Douglas S. Freeman High School PTAs. She will begin serving on the Board of the Henrico Education Foundation in July.

She and her husband Jim are the parents of two daughters, Laura and Anna. She attends Second Baptist Church where she serves as a trustee.
