Bob Lewis is the McGuireWoods law firm’s senior manager for media relations and is a senior advisor with McGuireWoods Consulting. As the law firm’s media relations manager, he leads the firm’s communications team implementing media strategies to support McGuireWoods’ more than 1,000 lawyers in 21 offices worldwide. As a senior advisor with McGuireWoods Consulting, Bob has assisted clients in meeting their business goals through media relations and communications strategies.
A widely respected journalist with 35 years of experience, Bob was state capitol correspondent for the Associated Press in Richmond, Virginia, before joining McGuireWoods. As the chief Virginia political writer for the global news agency, he covered Virginia’s executive branch agencies, state and federal courts, regulatory agencies, law enforcement, natural disasters and human tragedies such as the 2002 sniper attacks and the mass shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007. For the past three years, he also wrote a widely published weekly politics and state government column titled “South Portico.”
Bob’s career in journalism began as editor and publisher of a weekly newspaper in Mississippi in 1978. He held editing and reporting posts for the past 28 years with AP in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia. Beginning in 2000, he directed AP’s state-level public policy reporting team in Virginia and coordinated its election coverage in the state. He is a two-term past president of the Virginia Capitol Correspondents Association and in 2012 was named to POLITICO’s list of “50 Politicos to Watch” during that year’s presidential and U.S. Senate elections.
