New Job, Jim Kerr to Launch McGuireWoods Energy Practice
Jim Kerr, an attorney currently working with the state Utilities Commission, will leave his state job next month to launch a new energy policy practice at McGuireWoods LLP. McGuireWoods, a Virginia law firm that moved into the Triangle market with its April purchase of Helms Mulliss & Wicker, said Kerr will work out of its Raleigh and Washington, D.C., offices. His energy practice will be a national group offering both legal and consulting services to the energy industry, according to a statement from the firm. Kerr, 44, is the immediate past president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. He was appointed to the Utilities Commission in 2001 for an eight-year term. Before joining the commission, he was a partner at the Smith Anderson law firm.
