Former State Senator Eric Johnson Joins McGuireWoods Consulting

Johnson, who was named to Gov.-elect Nathan Deal’s transition committee, recently retired from elected office after first being elected to the Georgia State House in 1992, where he replaced his friend and current Congressman Jack Kingston. In 1994, he was elected to the State Senate. In just his second term, he was elected as Minority (Republican) Whip. As Minority Leader from 1998 to 2002, he led Republicans to their first majority in 130 years. With a Democrat as Lt. Governor, the new Republican majority elected Johnson President Pro Tempore. From that position, Johnson appointed committees and managed the flow of legislation and the budget. He resigned his Senate seat in 2009 to run for Governor of Georgia. In addition to his work at McGuireWoods Consulting, he will continue to work at the Savannah architectural firm of Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung, where he is president.

"We are excited to have Senator Johnson joining us,” said Frank Atkinson, chairman of McGuireWoods Consulting. “Throughout the years, he has shown he understands how to effect change and deliver results, reaching across the aisle on key issues including tax and ethics reform, water policy, and school choice. He will bring that same level of commitment to our clients.”

Johnson and Holcomb will join Ashley Harris and Victor Moldovan, who currently provide strategic services and advice to clients in Georgia and across the country. Harris is an attorney and a vice president of State Government Relations for McGuireWoods Consulting. Prior to joining McGuireWoods in 2008, she was Director of Government Affairs for Waste Management. For more than 20 years, Moldovan has focused his practice on matters relating to health care law. He is also a partner with McGuireWoods LLP.

“Eric possesses a unique perspective and in-depth knowledge of the legislative process and the policy challenges facing our state,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. “As a colleague and a friend, I know he is somebody with a passion for strengthening our state and the skills to deliver results.”

Before joining McGuireWoods Consulting, Holcomb was the associate director for Georgia Association of Health Plans, where she played a key role in maintaining the association and focusing on health care legislation at the Georgia General Assembly. Holcomb began her career is state politics in 1998 working in various capacities in the State Senate, including the Senate Press Office. She also spent two years as the legislative liaison for the Georgia Department of Corrections.
