Neff Gould Attends Southern States Energy Board Meeting

The Southern States Energy Board is an interstate compact, comprised of governors and state legislators from 16 southern states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as a presidential appointee. The Board's mission is to promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in the South through innovations in energy and environmental programs, policies and technologies.

James Wood, Deputy Assistant Secretary with the U.S. Department of Energy was the featured speaker on May 24, 2011. Mr. Wood's remarks included a look at the future of coal and the industry’s relationship with the federal government moving forward. Other topics included carbon capture and sequestration, the outlook for future coal generation, making environmental improvements without risking economic and energy security, and a discussion of pending EPA rules and regulations.

The committee also had the opportunity to observe the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) mobile classroom and tour Dominion’s Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center.
