McGuireWoods Consulting Wins PRSA Awards for Work on Ashley's Law

On May 16, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Richmond chapter held the 65th Annual Virginia Public Relations Awards to honor statewide organizations and companies for excellence in public relations. McGuireWoods Consulting received a “Commonwealth Best in Show” award for best overall entry, which is one of the top awards of the night, and the “Award of Excellence” for best public affairs campaign. The Ashley’s Law entry received a perfect score from the judges, comprised of a panel from the Philadelphia chapter of PRSA.

Ashley's Law declares that emergency vehicles must have both their siren and emergency lights on or yield to traffic when responding to emergencies. The McGuireWoods Consulting team, including Mark Bowles, Mark Hubbard, Tray Adams, Tyler Bishop, and Felix Sarfo-Kantanka, worked with Cindy Colasanto, Ashley McIntosh's mother, to raise public awareness and gain support for this change in state law. Ashley was tragically killed when a police car ran a red light and broadsided her vehicle.

The PRSA Richmond awards are lauded as some of the leading public relations honors in Virginia. The awards recognize the most creative and effective communications programs, tactics and professionals from 2011.
