Berlin – McGuireWoods Romania was recently named as one of five winners in the Public Affairs category for 2016 at the European Excellence Awards in Berlin. The team was honored for its “Every Child in Kindergarten” program, which  impacts more than 111,000 children by working to prevent early school dropouts in disadvantaged areas across Romania. McGuireWoods was privileged to support OviduRO, a highly respected local non-government organization that is dedicated to making early education available to poor children in Romania,  on a pro bono basis by providing strategic counsel and coordinating and executing the public affairs campaign and legislative efforts .

“When Leslie (Hawke), the founder of OvidiuRo, reached out to us to see if McGuireWoods could help them promote and pass the Bill with the limited resources they had available, we jumped at the chance to assist and impact such a meaningful project,” said Nadia Crisan, Senior Vice President for International Governmental Affairs at McGuireWoods. “Through a coordinated effort with our project partners – OvidiuRo, the US Embassy and McGuireWoods – we were able to successfully ensure that more than 100,000 disadvantaged Romanian children can now attend kindergarten and be afforded the same educational opportunities as their peers.”

The European Excellence Awards, an annual event which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, honors outstanding achievements of communications professionals across Europe. This is the first time McGuireWoods Romania received a European level recognition.
