The Hill Names Drobac, Wasinger and Mohib 2018 Top Lobbyists
The Hill announced its “Top Lobbyists 2018” list today, naming accomplished professionals from corporations, grassroots organizations, associations and hired guns.
Three individuals were recognized from McGuireWoods Consulting’s Washington, DC office. Michael Drobac, senior advisor on the emerging technologies team, Mona Mohib, senior vice president for the firm’s federal public affairs team and national multistate strategies team, and Robert Wasinger, senior vice president on the federal public affairs team.
The article notes, "The nation’s capital is teeming with lobbyists and influencers, but when the stakes are at their highest, these are the players at the top of their game, known for their ability to successfully navigate the byzantine and competitive world of federal policymaking."
Leader of McGuireWoods Consulting’s national emerging technologies practice, Drobac established the Small UAV Coalition and its sister organization, Drone Alliance Europe, leading drone trade associations domestically and internationally. The enactment in October 2018 of a multiyear FAA reauthorization with a Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) subtitle was celebrated by Coalition members as a big success, reflecting several years of efforts on Capitol Hill. Drobac’s team also successfully protected the firm’s online travel clients from a purported consumer protection provision pushed by the airlines. Additionally, on behalf of his longtime ecommerce clients, Drobac led efforts to push an internet sales tax bill in Congress in the run-up to a favorable Supreme Court decision on the subject issued in June. Drobac has a depth of Senate experience and leading government affairs in-house for Fortune 500 technology companies.
“Michael and his team have achieved unprecedented advocacy and legislative success on behalf of our firm’s emerging technology clients,” said McGuireWoods Consulting chairman Mark Bowles. “This marks the third consecutive year that Michael has been acknowledged among Washington’s top lobbyists. He is a true team leader and trusted advisor to our clients.”
Mohib played a pivotal role in the passage of the Anti-Terrorism Clarification Act of 2018, signed into law by President Trump in October 2018. The bipartisan legislation narrows a key legal exemption that terror organizations have used to escape accountability from an original law passed in 1992. The new Act (H.R. 5954/S. 2946) provides victims and their families with a much stronger hand to play when seeking compensation for fatalities and injuries caused by foreign terror organizations. Mohib served in the Clinton/Gore Administration where she was associate director for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House and was director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor.
“Our firm congratulates Mona for her invaluable contributions to the passage of this measure,” said former South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges, president of McGuireWoods Consulting and leader of the firm’s national multistate strategies practice. “Advocating on behalf of terrorism victims and their families is a long-standing effort of our firm, and we congratulate Mona on her legislative success and selection to such a list of accomplished government affairs professionals.”
Wasinger offers clients a direct connection to current and former members of the Trump Administration having serving as director of Senate and Gubernatorial outreach for the Trump for President campaign. He also possesses significant Capitol Hill experience and a working knowledge of how various foreign government officials are relevant to a client’s business affairs, frequently initiating client contact with important principals in foreign countries where the company desires to conduct business.
“Rob is well-known on Capitol Hill for his track record in leveraging legislative initiatives and cultivating relationships aimed at enhancing companies’ business models,” said McGuireWoods Consulting’s federal public affairs director Paul Reagan. “His inclusion among the area’s most esteemed lobbyists is certainly well-deserved and a testament of his professionalism and skill.”
