Paul Reagan to Rejoin McGuireWoods Consulting In Federal Government Relations Leadership Role

Served as Chief of Staff for Va. Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Jim Webb

Paul J. Reagan, who served as chief of staff to Virginia’s former Gov. Terry McAuliffe and former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, is returning to McGuireWoods Consulting, filling a leadership role in its highly acclaimed Federal Government Relations Practice.

As senior vice president and director of federal government relations, Reagan will work closely with Frank Donatelli, executive vice president and director of federal public affairs. He will assist clients with matters before Congress and federal executive branch and regulatory agencies.

Reagan will also team up with MWC president and CEO Jim Hodges on McGuireWoods Consulting’s Multi-State Practice, with a primary focus on involving the nation’s governors. Additionally, he will work on client matters at the state and local level in Virginia.

“There are few people with Paul Reagan’s breadth of experience in state and federal policy issues. His keen insight into how government works at all levels will be invaluable to our clients. I am delighted to welcome Paul back to McGuireWoods Consulting,” said Hodges, a former governor of South Carolina.

McAuliffe appointed Reagan to lead his staff shortly after his 2013 election as Virginia governor and remained in the role until McAuliffe’s term ended in January. From 2006 through 2012, Reagan headed Webb’s Senate office staff in Washington.

“You would be hard pressed to find anyone with greater firsthand knowledge from either a policy or process standpoint than Paul has on Capitol Hill or in statehouses,” said Donatelli, who served in President Ronald Reagan’s administration. “He works well across party lines, giving our clients an enormous advantage as we help them achieve their business goals.”

Between those two chief-of-staff roles, Reagan was a senior advisor for McGuireWoods Consulting in 2013. His first tour at MWC was as a senior vice president beginning in May 2005 after he had served as communications director for then-Gov. Mark Warner. Previously, Reagan had worked for nearly two decades on the staffs of four U.S. House members from Virginia, including L.F. Payne, now a McGuireWoods Consulting senior advisor and its immediate past president and CEO. Reagan also briefly served as counsel to the House Science Subcommittee.

“From his senior roles with Senator Webb, Governors McAuliffe and Warner, and his years in the House, Paul has a wealth of relationships not just with elected leaders but also among national business and industry leaders, especially in Virginia,” said McGuireWoods Consulting chairman Mark Bowles.

Reagan said he was “happy to be coming home.”

“McGuireWoods Consulting has always delivered excellent results for clients over its 20 years and has greatly expanded those capabilities in the past few years,” he said.
