Drobac, Satterlund Named Government Relations Trailblazers by National Law Journal
The National Law Journal named McGuireWoods Consulting senior advisor, Michael Drobac, and senior vice president, Michele Satterlund, Government Relations Trailblazers, recognizing their leadership in both federal and state government affairs.
Leader of McGuireWoods Consulting’s national emerging technologies team, Drobac has established several coalitions in the technology sector to build support for necessary regulatory and legislative initiatives. The coalitions of businesses, individuals and organizations work with Drobac to advocate before Congress and federal agencies in support of specific policy objectives and develop strategic messaging around an issue.
In the NLJ profile, he noted, “Anything innovative and disruptive typically gets tepid support from lawmakers, because new is scary. There is a bit of backlash toward tech, but that is focused on how big and powerful these platforms and companies are. Tech will make us healthier, happier and better informed, even with high levels of criticism.”
Satterlund, who is also a partner with McGuireWoods LLP, uses her government relations experience to look at creative and effective workarounds for clients. She co-founded the first state-level organization dedicated to lobbying and advocacy for all unmanned systems industry sectors.
“Technology is changing how we live and do things. It will be a challenge from the perspective of generational differences, as well as the policy world trying to meet the interests of all those plus safety and risk issues. We will also see issues surrounding autonomous technology accomplishing what humans do now,” she said in the NLJ profile.
In addition, Satterlund recently launched McGuireWoods Consulting Women in Public Affairs, an initiative designed to enhance business development for women working in government affairs and advocacy, as well as an opportunity to share thought leadership and best business practices.
