This week, Virginia Speaker-designee, Eileen Filler-Corn, announced key advisors to her transition team to the office of the Speaker of the House of Delegates. L.F. Payne, senior advisor with McGuireWoods Consulting, has been selected among other Commonwealth leaders to assist Filler-Corn as she prepares for the upcoming legislative session.

Born and raised in Amherst County, Virginia, L.F. Payne served in the U.S. Congress as Virginia’s 5th District Congressman for five terms.

“Last week, people across the Commonwealth told us they wanted to move our Commonwealth forward, address our most critical challenges and ensure transparency for all Virginians,” said Speaker-designee Filler-Corn. “I am truly honored to have guidance from these leaders from across Virginia to develop leadership to make our schools better, our communities stronger and our economy more fair.”

In addition to his role at McGuireWoods Consulting, Payne serves on the Executive Committee of the U.S. Former Members of Congress Association. He is also a member of the Governing Council of the Miller Center at the University of Virginia.

“I am pleased to be a member of the future Speaker’s transition team,” Payne said. “Delegate Filler-Corn is a very able leader, and I look forward to working with the team to help her plan her Speakership.”

Payne previously served as president and chief executive officer of McGuireWoods Consulting, and was instrumental in the launch and early growth of MWC in Richmond, Virginia.

“McGuireWoods Consulting has been a prominent feature of Virginia’s political landscape for over two decades,” said MWC Virginia director, Tray Adams. “Its strong bipartisan team is one of the reasons why I joined MWC 12 years ago.”

Current chairman of McGuireWoods Consulting, Mark Bowles, reiterated Payne’s qualifications, “L.F.’s years of business and government experience will be a tremendous asset to the Speaker-designee in the weeks ahead.  L.F. brings a creative, thoughtful and responsible approach to governance that the Commonwealth will undoubtedly benefit from during this process.”
