On May 30, McGuireWoods Consulting vice president Danica Thompson presented the Marsy’s Law for Georgia Award to U.S. Sen. David Perdue for his advocacy and support for expanding constitutional rights for victims of violent crimes.
MWC’s Georgia state government relations team helped successfully pass Marsy’s Law on the November 2018 ballot, which amends the Georgia Constitution to include a bill of rights for victims of violent crimes during criminal proceedings. These include the victim’s right to be treated fairly and respectfully, receive notice of related proceedings and be heard at such proceedings.
MWC senior advisor Brad Alexander worked with Thompson to create the Marsy’s Law Advisory Committee, which works to ensure that Georgia state and local agencies have the necessary training to properly implement Marsy’s Law on behalf of crime victims in Georgia.
