Mike Andrews Helps Bring Indigenous Bowl to Minnesota, with Vikings, NFL as Host

Announced Oct. 14, 2021, the 7G Foundation, in partnership with the Minnesota Vikings, will host the 4th Indigenous Bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021. As counsel to the 7G Foundation, McGuireWoods partner and McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president, Mike Andrews, helped establish the partnership between the NFL, Minnesota Vikings and the 7G Foundation.

The Indigenous Bowl began in 2017 and creates opportunities for Native American athletes to compete at a high level, instills the values needed for multigenerational change and develops the next generation of leaders in their communities.

“I applaud the NFL and the Vikings for investing in Native youth and elevating the Indigenous Bowl football game,” Andrews said. “As a longtime football coach in the DMV area, I know how football inspires and provides opportunities that may not exist in Indian Country.”

Andrews joined McGuireWoods in October after serving as Staff Director for the United States Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and now leads the firm’s Native American public policy efforts. The 7G Foundation focuses on building a more modern education system for Indian Country and Indigenous communities, incorporating technology and promoting an education that teaches the depth of Indigenous history.

“The NFL is pleased to support the fourth annual Indigenous Bowl, and we thank the Minnesota Vikings for hosting this year’s game. The game of football provides important life skills of teamwork, leadership, and hard work that will benefit these young men for years to come. Working with the 7G Foundation to build upon these values, the 2021 Indigenous Bowl will provide an opportunity for these players to showcase their skills as they become the next generation of Native American leaders,” Brian McCarthy, NFL Vice President of Corporate Communications said in a statement.

High school football players are chosen to compete in the game through an application process open to members of federally recognized tribes across the United States. For more information about the Indigenous Bowl can be found at www.Indigenousbowl.com.
