National, Legal Media Announce Arrival of Mike Andrews to McGuireWoods, McGuireWoods Consulting
National publications covered the recent arrival of McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president and McGuireWoods partner, Mike Andrews, who recently joined the firm to lead its Native American public policy efforts in D.C.
The National Law Journal, Law360, POLITICO Influence and POLITICO Playbook were among the media outlets that covered the Oct. 4 addition of the former staff director and chief counsel to the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. After a successful career on Capitol Hill and recent experience working for Sens. John Barrasso, John Hoeven and Lisa Murkowski, Andrews brings extensive knowledge in federal Indian law, as well as agriculture, housing, land use and congressional oversight issues.
In an interview with The National Law Journal, Andrews characterized his new role at the firm as “jumpstarting” the Native American practice. Prior to his arrival, McGuireWoods had done “significant work” in the field, Andrews said, but was “looking to complement what they already have.”
“I’m building a federal practice, but state representation is important—in that regard, I felt McGuireWoods had some unique resources that some of the other firms did not have,” he said.
After seven years on Capitol Hill, Andrews looked to join a firm with a bipartisan spirit where he could assist tribes, tribal organizations and businesses that want to do work in Indian Country, he told Law360. He found that firm in McGuireWoods, where he hopes to get involved in issues related to Native American agriculture, housing and land use.
While speaking with Law360, Andrews added, “I'm excited to use my 20-plus years of Indian law experience to provide a voice at the table for Indian Country from a policy, legislative and legal perspective."
