National publications covered the recent arrival of McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president and director, Breelyn Pete, who recently joined the firm to lead its California state government relations and national municipal strategies teams.
The Los Angeles Times, Law360, Reuters and O’Dwyers were among the media outlets that noted the Oct. 4, 2021 addition of the former deputy mayor for the City of Los Angeles and longtime advisor of Mayor Eric Garcetti. As deputy mayor, Ms. Pete oversaw all aspects of the City of Los Angeles’ local, state, and federal affairs. Most notably, she secured billions of dollars in state and federal COVID-19 assistance for the city and led advocacy efforts to drastically expand California’s investments to address the housing and homelessness crises. Ms. Pete also served as Mayor Garcetti’s most senior staff representative in his engagement with the White House, Congress, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the National League of Cities, and California’s Big City Mayors to advance priorities such as affordable housing, sustainability, infrastructure, racial equity, and COVID-19 response.
While speaking with Law360, Ms. Pete noted, “I think what is going to be really exciting for me is leveraging much of the work and the relationships that I’ve been able to build with state and local and federal municipalities, which I believe would really help to enhance the firm’s footprint in California with not only small, but large cities around the country and in Washington D.C.”
