Former Senate Chief of Staff, General Counsel Steve Tippins Joins McGuireWoods Consulting’s Georgia Government Affairs Team
McGuireWoods Consulting welcomes Steve Tippins, an attorney and a well-known veteran of Georgia politics and government, as senior vice president of on the firm’s Georgia government affairs team.
Tippins joins McGuireWoods Consulting after serving as chief of staff and general counsel to the President Pro-Tempore of the Georgia Senate.
As chief of staff, Tippins was responsible for helping craft and negotiate passage of key legislation, including appropriations bills and the state budget, and supervised the day-to-day administration of the Senate. He also helped direct the Senate’s various departments, including Senate Press, Senate Research, Senate Staffing and Senate Budget and Evaluation. Before serving as chief of staff, Tippins served as general counsel to the Senate.
Prior to joining the Senate, Tippins was an attorney in private practice, where he litigated an extensive portfolio of civil and criminal cases, including complex business litigation and other civil matters. He also served as a staff attorney/law clerk for the Superior Court in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit.

In addition to his work in government, Tippins has authored numerous articles for The American Conservative and other outlets.

Tippins received his LL.M. from Emory University specializing in law and religion, his J.D. from John Marshall School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Georgia.
