Jim Dyke ‘Living Legend’ in NOVA Business Community for Decades-long DE&I

On Feb. 14, 2022, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce (NOVA) featured a Q&A interview with McGuireWoods Consulting senior advisor James Dyke, looking at diversity, equity and inclusion in the state.

Referring to Jim as a “living legend” in Northern Virginia’s business community, the article noted Jim’s “tireless efforts on behalf of diversity, equity, and inclusion” and his roles as Virginia’s first Black secretary of education and as NOVA’s first minority chair.

“Since 2019, Virginia has been named CNBC’s Top State for Business. We’re doing a lot of things right, but to remain competitive and to continue to grow, we need to keep pushing the ball forward,” Jim said. “Paving the way forward can apply to our businesses as well. The time is right for Virginia. With all of us pulling together on diversity, equity, and inclusion, we will continue as not only the best state for business, but also as the most inclusive business environment that welcomes diversity and understands its importance in growing our economy.”

As a member of NOVA’s DE&I board of advisors, Jim said the board is focused on addressing community needs — specifically education and home ownership — that must be met for Northern Virginia to continue building an inclusive and diverse business community.
