Jim Dyke ‘Living Legend’ in NOVA Business Community for Decades-long DE&I
On July 6, 2022, McGuireWoods Consulting senior advisor Jim Dyke co-authored a letter to Inside NoVa on the ‘Advancing Civics’ partnership between the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership, part of the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. A former Chair of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Jim co-authored the letter with the current chair and two other former chairs of the Chamber.
Advancing Civics will bring together leaders across the states and in the region to discuss how “bipartisanship, compromise and civil discourse” is needed to bring progress. The same leaders were instrumental in the creation of major infrastructure projects, investments in schools and other accomplishments.
The letter notes that bipartisanship has been responsible for recent successes in the region, including a bipartisan negotiation to pass Virginia’s state budget; a bipartisan decision to rebuild the American Legion Bridge between Maryland and Virginia and bipartisan action to enhance Metro funding in both states to help in Amazon’s decision to select the region for a second headquarters.
The authors close with a call-to-action for business leaders and legislators alike. “It should not be historic when Republicans and Democrats find common ground, it should be the norm.”
