BIO

Clayton Cox is a vice president on McGuireWoods Consulting’s federal public affairs team, based in Washington, DC. With more than a decade of experience at the highest levels of national Democratic politics, he provides an incomparable set of contacts and perspectives to clients. Since joining the firm, he has built a practice largely around advocating on behalf of local governments, nonprofits and companies in the Southeastern U.S. at the federal level and has served as a guide in the appropriations and federal grant process.

Clayton most recently oversaw the fundraising for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) during its most successful four-year cycle ever. He helped lead the Biden Victory Fund which raised a record breaking $1.6 billion for the presidential campaign. Clayton also served as a senior advisor to Democratic Party Chairman Tom Perez in 2017, playing a major role in rebuilding the national party.

During the 2016 cycle, Clayton served as a regional finance director for the DNC, overseeing the national party’s fundraising efforts in the Southeast. He was embedded in Florida during the Clinton presidential campaign where his team broke regional fundraising records.

In 2014, Clayton took on his first national fundraising profile as the finance director for Virginia Progress PAC, which sought to support Senator Mark Warner’s reelection to the Senate. Prior, he was the deputy finance director for the Southeast and Florida at the DNC and Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Clayton was a member of President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign where he helped raise money in the Southeast. He has also worked for Senator Claire McCaskill in her Washington, DC office. He is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife and two young children.
