Lucy joined McGuireWoods Consulting in January 2019 as a vice president on the Texas state government relations team. With a background in government and political communications, she helps public and private sector clients build strategies to navigate the intersection between public relations and public affairs, capitalize on opportunities and respond to threats.
Lucy specializes in all-of-the-above communications services, including crisis communications, media training, media relations, social media, strategic long and short term planning and content creation. Her clients include innovative technology companies, advocacy groups and industry coalitions at both the state and national level. She often speaks on panels and gives presentations on media relations, messaging, interview preparation, social media and other communication strategies.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods Consulting, she spent a decade in Texas government and politics, working extensively on some of the most critical issues facing the Lone Star State. As press secretary to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Lucy played a key role in promoting the governor’s policy initiatives, including his signature economic development efforts, and handling crisis response and media relations. She worked extensively with state and national media outlets and traveled around the country and abroad. She also served as communications director on the governor’s 2015 presidential campaign. Most recently, Lucy served as communications director for Texans for Lawsuit Reform, one of the largest and most successful state-based tort reform organizations in the nation.
Lucy is committed to making a difference at work and in her community. She was named a 2019 Texas Lobby Rising Star by Capitol Inside. She is a member of the Junior League of Austin and an alumnae of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta, and formerly served as the chapter’s communications adviser. She received a bachelor’s degree in public relations from The University of Texas at Austin.
