Brian is a vice president on McGuireWoods Consulting’s South Carolina government relations team, where he will assist clients with communications and government relations strategy.

Prior to joining the firm, Brian served in the South Carolina governor’s office as a communications advisor to then-Gov. Nikki Haley and Gov. Henry McMaster. Eventually named McMaster’s deputy chief of staff for communications, Brian’s tenure in the governor’s office spanned three gubernatorial election cycles over the course of nearly 10 years.

Drawing on his experience running the governor’s press office, Brian looks forward to sharing with clients his valuable understanding of South Carolina’s media landscape and state government.

Brian was intimately involved in the state’s responses to several natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, and he is well suited to advise clients on effective and timely communications when they most need it.

Brian served as the governor’s chief spokesperson in statewide and national media outlets, while developing strategic communications plans for policy initiatives, major economic development announcements, and more. This, along with his experience managing digital media strategy and leveraging traditional media opportunities, allows Brian to provide clients with an understanding of how to communicate the right message, to the right audience, at the right time.

A native of South Carolina, Brian and his wife, Haley, live in Columbia, where they are raising their daughter, Maxine. He was a member of the Clemson University football team from 2011-2013.
