emerging technologiesMcGuireWoods Consulting’s emerging technologies team has significant experience working with Congress and federal and state regulatory agencies to advance policies beneficial to businesses utilizing and developing new technologies. We help influence policies that allow companies to enhance revenue, create efficiencies, and meet consumer demand for innovative goods and services in a changing economy through technology.

Our team takes a holistic and forward-looking approach to address how technology will impact the economy and workforce. Members of our team advise businesses on how to create and change policy and regulation to promote new business models and an environment that keeps pace with the global competition in technology deployment.

Led by Michael Drobac, former in-house head of government affairs for multiple leading technology companies, Senate counsel and head of government affairs for a leading digital media trade association, our team’s understanding of how businesses approach policy and how these policies impact businesses, is rooted in corporate experience and differentiates us from our competitors. We help shape policy on a variety of issues associated with emerging technologies, including autonomous vehicles, robotics, digital services, data security and privacy, artificial intelligence, automation, taxation, intellectual property rights and consumer protection.

Members of our team have deep experience collaborating with businesses in the healthcare, financial, transportation, telecommunications, energy, retail and manufacturing industries, among others. In addition, the team has particular skill in developing coalitions of businesses, individuals and organizations to build support for necessary regulatory and legislative initiatives.

Emerging technologies such as unmanned aircraft systems and autonomous vehicles are prime examples of advancements that offer tremendous potential, but are confined by the limits of the current regulatory landscape. Our team is well-versed in federal policies surrounding new sectors of the digital economy and is known for its ability to represent our clients’ interests before regulatory agencies and legislative bodies alike. Regardless of the technology at hand or the regulatory complexity, the hallmark of our team is its ability to pivot between issues and educate and advocate for solutions to enhance our clients’ interests.
